Moderated courses | British Council

Led by a British Council moderator, and working with a group of teachers from around the world, these courses have fixed start dates. All our moderators are expert online teacher trainers with many years of experience in various teaching areas. We offer three moderated courses:

Primary Essentials

Primary Essentials is a development course for teachers of English teaching children of seven to eleven years old. The course is delivered as an online course in which a group of teachers and a trained moderator work together.

The course consists of six modules and lasts approximately 12 weeks. The modules includes readings, audio, videos of teachers in the classroom, interactive exercises, collaborative exercises, discussion forums and other activities. Participants are assessed at the end of each module. Participants who complete the course successfully receive a British Council certificate. We run several courses a year.

TKT Essentials (Teaching Knowledge Test)

The TKT Essentials course provides an introduction to English language teaching methodology for teachers who want to develop expertise in communicative language teaching. It is suitable for both newly qualified teachers who need to develop knowledge of key concepts in ELT and experienced teachers who want to update their methodology.

TKT Essentials has three modules organised also as two separate courses: TKT Module 1 and TKT Modules 2 & 3.

CLIL Essentials (Content and Language Integrated Learning)

This course offers primary and secondary school teachers who teach curricular subjects (eg. geography, maths, science) in English practical methods to support their learners in English. It is an ideal course for English teachers looking to become more specialised in bilingual education and support other teachers in team teaching or to teach curricular subjects themselves through English. This course helps teachers understand CLIL methodology and apply best practice in the classroom.

The course is a series of 20 units providing practical classroom strategies and lasts approximately 20 weeks. This syllabus will support teachers looking to take the University of Cambridge TKT CLIL examination. We run several courses a year. We run several courses a year.
