The maids by Jean Genet is the play with which controversial British stage, opera and film director Katie Mitchell made her directing debut at Toneelgroep Amsterdam last season. In her contemporary adaptation, Chris Nietvelt and Marieke Heebink impress the audience in their roles of sisters Claire and Solange. After sold-out performances at the prestigious Festival d’Avignon last summer, the production will this season be performed exclusively at the Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam, surtitled in English on 23 and 30 November.
